What exactly is wholeness? and how can a woman develop wholeness?
The answer is Living water. This describes simply water that gives life. The same water that Jesus says out of his belly will flow rivers of living water. Life-giving water. Purification, refreshing, salvation, to be made new. To have life in abundance these are all the promises of this living water… ( whew!)
In John 4:7 Jesus asks the woman for water. This was in the literal sense. Let’s check out the details of this text:
Vs.7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”
Vs.10 Water goes from literally to figuratively ” I have better water it’s called living water”.
Vs.11 The woman didn’t catch what Jesus meant… “What are you talking about sir” in other words.
Vs.13 Jesus says the water I have you’ll never thirst again. Vs.15 She says please sir give me this water. Jesus says go get your husband.
A Woman Longing for Love
What is happening here? The woman asks for water and Jesus says go get your husband. We can imply from the text that this woman must’ve been a woman we would call nowadays “thirsty”. Which describes a fast and easy woman. A woman who longs for attention from a man. I believe this woman at the well was longing for love. She was longing for love and searching for this love in men. She had 5 husbands! Getting a divorce during that time was frowned upon, so to have five husbands and then be with a man who was not your husband is revealing just how extreme this woman’s problem was. She had to have been searching for something through these men and I believe it was true love.
These men filled a void in her life
Why was this woman giving herself away? Was it for attention? for survival? Either way, these men were filling a temporary void in her life. Somewhere in her heart, she was thirsty and Jesus says I have what you need. You need me. Living Water. A refreshing, a fulfilling, quenching of your thirst. Jesus knew what she really desired and that was wholeness. He can fill that void for love with living water making you whole.
Jesus Makes You Whole. You’ll Never Thirst Again
God knows the empty void in your heart and he wants to fill that space with his living water causing you to never thirst for anything again. Ask God for this living water, you can have it. For the scripture promises out of your belly will flow RIVERS of living water.
He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMP)
