If the enemy can get you to be afraid he has already won half of the battle.
I would walk around biting my nails. Sleeping with most of the lights on, literally afraid of being in the house alone. I was part of a church for 4+ years and while I was taught the word of God it was not working in my life because I was still growing in my relationship with God. The more I read the word of God, I begin to understand the word of God, and the more I understood the word of God it was changing me. I would find myself reflecting on the word of God and actively memorizing the word of God for situations I was experiencing. I remember this one scripture “Don’t worry about tomorrow, let tomorrow worry about itself” Matthew 6:34 I literally repeated it in my mind for a whole month straight to overcome being concerned with how I would pay my bills. As the concern would come up, I was going against the concern with the word of God.
The more I did this I saw that the word of God was literally coming alive in my life. God does not say to just read the word of God. He says to meditate on the word of God. So, after I read the word of God, I would think about what it meant and explore the different areas of applying it to my life. The word of God is already alive (that means it works! It’s moving, it has breath, and it still works) we just have to do our part and make it alive in our own lives and that’s through believing it with our heart. Whatever you believe with your heart you will naturally produce your life (Proverbs 23:7 KJV).
Fear weakens the faith of the believer and once this happens the believer becomes weak spiritually. Fear says you don’t believe that God is able. God’s own being afraid of anything is an insult to an almighty God. If you are to fear anything, fear, fear itself because that which you fear comes alive in your life. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee. Proverbs 23:7 KJV. Fear was the reason behind Job’s affliction. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. Job 3:25 KJV
Fear takes a Believer out of God’s presence and protection. In 2 Kings 6:17, the chariots of horses surrounded Elijah but not his servant because his servant was afraid. That’s why Elijah prayed “lord open his eyes that he may see that there are more for us than against us”. Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire 2 Kings 6:17 NLT
There are often obstacles and barriers that we must overcome to enter the promises of God. We overcome obstacles and barriers by faith. You need faith to pull down any spiritual wall or blockage in your life. Walls coming against your destiny must come down. Just as with Joshua and his fight to possess what already belonged to him, you must possess what belongs to you by faith. You can command the ministering angels of God to enter the battle with you against the kingdom of Satan. The wall that blocks your marriage, ministry, promotion, peace, or joy has to come down (like the wall of Jericho) by the mighty power of God. Has God’s hand lost his power?
I had to learn what it meant to have faith in God and trust God. The problem is you may have faith in a God you don’t know, but it’s hard to trust a God that you don’t know. What helped me to trust God was remembering the ways he showed up for me before and learning just how powerful God is, what he is capable of, and exactly who God is. Learning that God is Omnipotent means that there is absolutely nothing more powerful than God. Not even my own will is more powerful than God’s. Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? (Isaiah 40:12 NLT)
Learning that God is Omnipresent means that he is everywhere (Psalm 139:7-9 NLT) I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave,[a] you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. Gave me a sense of security that I’m not really ever alone.
Learning that God is all-knowing Omniscience. There is absolutely nothing that happens or will happen in my life that God doesn’t already know about. He already planned it, for the bible says that every single day of my life was already planned. He knew when I would fall, he knew how I would fall, he knew who I will marry, he knew when I’ll go to heaven to be with him. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:16 NLT) Reading stories of how God defeated the enemy for his people, parting seas, overturning strong armies with just a small army of men, or taking down an army with just 1 man all demonstrate just how powerful God really is. Has God hand lost his power?
He is a God of judgment and of love. His judgment is to produce love & fear for him in our hearts (Hebrews 12:11). He is a good God. That means all that he does, and all that he allows really is for our good. Sometimes it doesn’t seem that God is good when our lives seem to be going bad or all wrong but remember that while we are in the midst of our story God already knows how the story ends. And we can be assured that it will end in our favor. Romans 8:28 NLT And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. You are protected by staying in the will of God. His will is found in his word and his word is written on your heart so you can naturally flow in the will of God every day you surrender your will for his will.
Overcome Fear with the Power of God.
- Memorize scriptures on not only God’s love but God’s power! (Jeremiah 32:27).
- Pray in the spirit every day to build your spirit in your life. So that you move in the spirit (peace, love, joy) and not by the flesh (fear, hate, bitterness). The enemy cannot match the unseen forces fighting on your behalf. Prayer invokes these forces to be active in our lives.
- Saturating your atmosphere with praise and worship. Sometimes I have praise and worship playing low in the background as I go about my day.
- Simply when you feel yourself getting afraid rebuke & resist it. Let the words come out of your mouth “I resist the spirit of fear in the name of Jesus!” say it with your chest & go on about your business.
Whether you feel like it or not as a believer of the all-powerful God you inherit power and authority. You are a soldier packing a lot of weight. So, assume your position and resist fear with the power of God that’s so readily available to you. Like a powerful woman of God once said, “Pray until you scare that thing that tried scaring you”.
